PROJECT TITLE: English Speaking Nation: Secondary Teacher Training Program (ESN: STT)

PROJECT AIM:

The ESN: STT program aimed to strengthen English Language secondary education in Uzbekistan by cultivating a supportive teaching and professional development ecosystem for secondary school English teachers. American Councils would like to evaluate ESN:STT program with the intent to ascertain if the program has met its goals and the program impact on the program participants with the intent to improve the program design in future programing that is supported by evidence-based decision making, and efficient knowledge transfer.

PROJECT AIM

The ESN:STT program was aimed at strengthening secondary English language education in Uzbekistan by creating an auxiliary ecosystem of teaching and professional development for English teachers in secondary schools. The American Councils would like to evaluate the ESN:STT program in order to find out whether the program has fulfilled its goals and the impact of the program on program participants in order to improve program design for future programs that are supported by evidence-based decision-making and effective knowledge transfer.

DESCRIPTION OF THE SERVICES ACTUALLY PROVIDED

As part of the project, a situational analysis was conducted in the field of teaching and professional development of teachers in Uzbekistan.

-An assessment of the effectiveness of the cascade model of the ESN: STT program was carried out.

-A desk review of relevant ESN: STT documents was conducted.

-Recommendations were formulated for future programs aimed at addressing existing and potential issues and encouraging changes in the teaching practices of teachers in Uzbekistan.

The following activities were conducted:

-10 online interviews with ESN trainers from the USA, George Mason University, the International TESOL Association (TESOL), and teams;

-35 interviews with key stakeholders;

-20 mini-case studies observing the activities of key teacher trainers and regional mentors;

-26 focus group discussions;

-20 CAPI interviews with school administration;

-1579 CATI interviews;

-personal and online interviews with project staff.
