On April 11, 2025, trilateral consultations were held in the conference hall of the Radisson Blu Hotel in Tashkent with the participation of cotton and textile clusters, the Uztextilprom Association, the Better Cotton Initiative and GIZ initiatives. The meeting was dedicated to the development of sustainable cotton growing and textile production in Uzbekistan.
The event opened with welcoming remarks from Katerina Gorbunova (Head of the Better Cotton Initiative branch), Dilbar Mukhamedova (Advisor to the Representative of the Uztextilprom Association) and a Representative of GIZ (German Society for International Cooperation).
Next, the Better Cotton team presented the key areas of the program in Uzbekistan, talked about the transition to certification, new requirements and opportunities for local manufacturers. Special attention was paid to the financial model, the obligations of the participants, as well as the results of due diligence, which were announced by Maria Malinovskaya, an Expert and Head of Al Mar Consulting. During the meetings, the participants actively asked questions and discussed the prospects for further cooperation.
The consultations ended with the identification of the next steps and the intention of all parties to continue working together to introduce sustainable practices in the country's cotton and textile industry.
