Project implementation for the World Bank, 2022
In 2022, the Al Mar Consulting team successfully completed part of the project “Baseline Assessment for the Central Asian Regional Network on Women's Participation in the Energy Sector”, commissioned by the World Bank.
This important step is aimed at promoting gender equality in the energy sector of four Central Asian countries — Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The main objective of the project was to conduct a comprehensive baseline assessment of the gender situation in the region's energy sector. The study became the foundation for the formation of the Central Asian Regional Network of Women in the Energy sector, providing a platform for interaction, exchange of experience and promotion of women's career development in this field.
The project included several key areas of work:
Desk analysis. a review of existing information and data on gender aspects in the energy sector was conducted, which revealed the main trends and problems.
Qualitative research. Focus group discussions (FGD) and interviews with key female informants in the energy sector have been organized.
The participants shared their experience of overcoming obstacles on their career path.
Quantitative research. Surveys have been conducted among academic institutions and energy companies to examine gender composition, career opportunities, and barriers for women in the energy industry.
Video materials: Interviews with 20 women from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan were recorded. Among the participants are representatives of various specialties in the energy industry.
Video blogs have been prepared in which women talked about the motivation for choosing a profession, family support, as well as the challenges they faced in their work. A short video interview announcement from Uzbekistan is attached.
Results and achievements. The project not only provided a deep understanding of the current gender situation in the Central Asian energy sector, but also laid the foundation for further strengthening the role of women in this field. The video stories of the participants inspire and demonstrate that a career in the energy industry is accessible and promising for women.
