PROJECT TITLE: Responsible Finance in Uzbekistan (quantitative and qualitative study)

CLIENT: German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation.

PERIOD: 11/2021 - 06/2022

PROJECT AIM:

The German Sparkassenstiftung recently launched the project "Responsible Finance" in Uzbekistan, which has the overarching aim of reducing poverty in rural regions and strengthening trust in the financial sector.

To kick off the project, it was planned to conduct a quantitative study with the following objectives:

• Generation of qualitative customer insights on trust in & perception of banks (collecting O-tones of current bank customers and non-bank customers)

• Identification of relevant aspects for trust or distrust

• Collection of all motives (motivations) that speak for, or barriers (obstacles) that speak against, using banks

A qualitative study with focus groups will be followed by a representative population survey with the following objectives:

• Quantification of other qualitative customer insights on trust in & perception of banks

• Measurement of trust level & other image aspects of the financial sector

• Quantification of all motives (motivations) that speak for, or barriers (obstacles) that speak against, using banks

• Measurement of relevant market figures (awareness & usage of different banks/products)

DESCRIPTION OF ACTUAL SERVICES PROVIDED IN THE ASSIGNMENT:

Qualitative Study

• Realization of 8 focus groups

• Recruitment of participants for all focus groups according to specifications (screener) of the Client

• Coordination of field days (field plan)

• Moderation of all focus groups in Uzbek

• Recording of all focus groups (video/audio)

• Preparation of interview transcripts in Russian and translation into English (format: MS Word)

• Evaluation, analysis and interpretation

• Preparation of a full report with all results including original quotes, conclusions & recommendations in English (format: MS Word)

Quantitative Study:

• Questionnaire programming in Uzbek & Russian

• Conduct 1,200 face-to-face interviews in Uzbek & Russian according to the quota plan

• Computer Aided Personal interview (CAPI) with smartphones/tablets provided by agency

• Coordination of field time with the Client

• Merge of Uzbek & Russian data set

• Complete / final data set in Russian and translation into English (format: MS Excel and SPSS)

• Tabulation in Russian and translation into English (format: MS Excel)

• Evaluation, analysis and interpretation

• Preparation of a full report with all results including graphs, tables, conclusions & recommendations in English (format: MS Word)
